Long Weekend Must-Haves

Long-Weekend-Must-Haves

I had completely forgotten all about the upcoming long MLK weekend, which obviously means no work on Monday! Hooorahhh! In the spirit of three-day weekends, I’ve put together a few “essentials.” :)

1.) Whether you decide to hit up the gym, go for a long run/walk, or simply plan on traveling around the city via public transportation (I plan on doing all three!), a stylish and quality pair of headphones are essential for the long weekend. I really love these statement, rose gold accented headphones by Frends.  My headphones are on their last leg so I’m thinking I may invest in my own pair.

2.) Even more importantly than headphones, a comfortable, durable, and cute pair of athetic shoes are essential for all of the above. I love Puma’s H-Street Sneaker with purple accents. They’re also reasonably priced…score!

3.) Sunglasses are always essential but they’re particularly essential when you have an extended period of time off. I spend quite a bit of time outdoors and need to protect those peepers. I’m horrible with sunglasses. I ALWAYS lose them. Always. Which is why I never purchase expensive sunglasses anymore. However, if you’re NOT like me and don’t leave them anywhere and everywhere, the Alexander McQueen gold aviators are pretty damn fabulous.

4.) I tend to be a big wine-o and lately I’ve been obsessed with Klinker Brick and Saldo Zins. I’m usually pretty good when it comes to restraint and only allowing for a glass or two with dinner but with these two, I find it very hard to stop! The best part; I don’t have to - even on Sunday - because it’s a long weekend! You can find Klinker Brick for a decent price (under $20) and Saldo is a little more indulgent, hovering around $30/bottle. Whatever your drink of choice, enjoy it on Sunday…because you can!

5.) A good book is always a must when you have a little time off. I just finished reading, Blog Inc., which was so inspiring for me. Next on the list is Mindy Kaling’s, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? I can’t wait to dive in; I’ll probably finish it by the weekend’s end.

6.) A nice camera is a great investment and that investment almost always pays off when you do something fun or photo-worthy. Long weekends are full of fun and photo-worthy moments so why not invest in that camera you’ve been meaning to purchase or bust out the one you did buy that’s sitting around collecting dust? I have a Nikon D3100 and I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t utilize it nearly as much as I should. That’s going to change this weekend.

7.) Okay, I really just wanted you all to drool over this gorgeous Oscar de la Renta Large Grafton clutch with me. Seriously, though…if you don’t have one, you should invest in a clutch you can take out at night with your friends. It doesn’t have to be Oscar de la Renta (my favorite in my collection is my Vintage Dior which I got for a fraction of that price) for $1500 but it should be versatile and drool-worthy.

8.) Now that the Golden Globes are over, I know where my priorities need to go as far as TV is concerned. Season 1 of Homeland and Girls are on the to-watch list this weekend…along with watching our 49ers beat the Falcons!!

Whatever your plans are for the long weekend, I hope you all have a wonderful and safe three days off.
