Farmer’s Market Fun

My parents have been watching Rufus for the last couple of months, partly because he had his knee surgery and partly because of my travels. Yesterday I was “Ru-united” (…and it feeeels so gooood!) with My Nugg and I was so happy to see his smooshy face!

Yesterday, in upwards of 90 degree heat, we strolled around the Farmer’s Market to get some fresh veggies and fruits. First, though, I had to pull Ru out of his favorite hiding spot in my parent’s closet.

We got him in the car and after a few worried looks (Am I going to the vet again, Mom?!), it was smooth sailing from there.

Despite the heat it was a beautiful day and the colors at the market seemed that much more vibrant.

After we loaded up on eggplant, peppers, sweet potatoes, and zucchini (and some fresh dog treats!), we went home and made our twist on a ratatouille.

Stuffed and tired, Ru and I watched some Olympics and snuggled into sleep. It was the perfect way to end my two weeks off. I can’t believe I have work tomorrow!

Canines & Couture Vacations in Boston, Newport, and New York!

Wow. What an amazing trip. What started out as a trip back East to attend one of my best  friend’s wedding, turned into a slew of wonderful memories and exciting opportunities. The only thing missing was my partner-in-crime, the Ru-Nugg. He was home resting and recouping with the fam after his knee surgery.

Arica and I started out in Boston, where I quickly fell head-over-heels in love with it. It’s true what people say; it’s definitely the East coast San Francisco.  It has a friendly, inviting vibe and the brownstones set against so much greenery make it a gorgeous setting.

We stayed at the Sheraton in the Back Bay which was a wonderful choice because we could walk to so many amazing spots. Newbury Street was a 5 minute walk.

Our first night in Boston we went to the Back Bay Social Club and I ordered the Fried Chicken and Waffles. This was one of my favorite meals on the whole trip (it’s diet time!).

Whenever I go back East I am obsessed with Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee. I had it every day while I was there. This was my first order of the trip and it was everything I’d hoped it would be…creamy, sugary, and highly caffeinated!

We couldn’t leave Boston without taking a picture in front of the famous Cheers bar! We also ate dinner at a hip joint called Sonsie, hit up Fenway Park and strolled around the up-and-coming, Seaport district. I was sad to leave but Megan’s wedding in Newport, RI, was calling.

The rehearsal reception was lovely and the bride – in true bridal form – rocked a hot little white dress. So cute!

The wedding was on the Newport Naval Base, right on the water in the Officer’s Club. The views were perfection.

Doesn’t the bride look gorgeous? Such a simple yet elegant dress. I was honored to be one of Megan’s bridesmaids. She was one of the most laid back brides and she let her BM’s wear whatever they wanted. I chose a maxi halter with yellow floral print from Express. I thought it was a lovely choice for the occasion and the weather.

With our downtime we decided to visit a couple of the Newport Mansions: The Marble House and The Breakers. They were too beautiful! Those Vanderbilt’s sure knew how to live the life.

After touring through The Marble House we decided to enjoy the views while sipping on a bubbly drink in the Tea House, behind the mansion. It was random but adorable.

After the mansions I took a quick peek into the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in downtown Newport where they had this fancy, well manicured grass court. It’s rare you see these anymore!

Sunday came all too soon and before I knew it, the festivities in Newport were over. It was time to part ways from Arica and head to NY to visit some family!

I took the train out of Boston to New London, CT. From there I hopped on the ferry to New Orient Point (the North Fork of Long Island, across from The Hamptons). My Uncle Tom and Nancy picked me up and took me to their gorgeous home in New Suffolk, right on the water. All I can say is, can I please move in, Uncle Tom?! ;)

They made lobster, fresh corn on the cob, and many other delicious goodies the night of my arrival…

…which also included a HOMEMADE cake in celebration of Aunt Nancy’s daughter, Alyssa’s birthday. Her husband made this from scratch, including the frosting/flowers!

We went to a delicious restaurant called Legends where I ordered one of the best veggie dishes I’ve ever had. We snapped a quick picture of all the ladies at the table… love my fam!

You’re probably thinking, alright, enough already…where are the cute pooches?! Well, I’m saving the best for last. Frank the Mini Pincher definitely stole the show!

Peek-a-boo…

I see you!

I’m going through vacation withdrawal now that I’m back in San Francisco. My day job is looming close. However,  I have some exciting news to share; you’re looking at the new Blog Editor for Jessica Pritchett Footwear! I wrote some blogs for Jessica in the past, as well as writing about her in AND Magazine. We finally met while I was in Manhattan. I truly believe in her brand and high-quality, fashionable designs and look forward to working with her as she builds her business! Her new website will be up-and-running in early September. I’ll definitely be mentioning her from time-to-time but until then, be sure to sign up for her updates.

As Good As it Gets with the Brussels Griffon

Remember the absolutely adorable dog in the movie As Good as it Gets? The first time I watched it I was convinced I needed to find that dog and make it my own. His character name was Verdell and he was a Brussels Griffon. One look at that furry maw and I wanted to smother him with love (don’t tell Rufus). I recently started following a blog that’s sole purpose is to spread the Brussels Griffin love and just had to share some of these adorable pictures.

Let’s add a BG to the long list of dog breeds I’d like to have someday.

A Whole New Level of Smooshy Faces

I love Pinterest! It provides so much inspiration and exposes you to images and ideas that you wouldn’t otherwise. Case-in-point, I stumbled upon Carli Davidson. I simply adore her “shake” series.

They’re so ugly they’re cute!! I want a series of “shake” photos with The Nugg. Next time I pull him out of the tub. :P

Labradoodle in Huntington Beach

I was in Huntington Beach this past weekend for one of my best friend’s bachelorette party. Our crew was walking into town on Friday morning when we came across this adorable, curly Labradoodle-morsel! As soon as I gave him a little attention he got so excited, running around in circles, and vigorously wagging his tail. By the stroke of God, we managed to have him settle down for 3 seconds and in that time I was able to snap this great pic of him. Look at how posed he looks!

It was a fabulous weekend. I can’t wait for the wedding, where, rumor has it they’ll be bringing their two squishy English Bulldogs, Tug and Max.

Obsessed with Anchors-Aweigh

If you like Pinterest, you’ll love the blog, Anchors-Aweigh. It’s just one great picture after another in a tumblr layout! I stumbled across this gorgeous image of a Great Dane and Kate Moss which inspired me to explore more around the site. Once I got started I couldn’t help but gather others to share.

I just love the look on this English Bulldog puppy. “This plant doesn’t taste nearly as good as I thought it would.” :( tehe

Happy perusing!
