“Bad Dog” Sculpture at OCMA by Richard Jackson

Richard-Jackson-Bad-Dog-sculpture-Bad-DogYou aren’t seeing things. This larger-than-life Black Labrador is indeed peeing yellow paint against the wall of the OCMA (Orange County Museum of Art). The sculpture is one part of an exhibit called, “Ain’t Painting a Pain,” by Richard Jackson, and will stay erected until May 5, 2013.

What do you all think of this sculpture? I for one, think it’s fantastic and think it should be there year round! Of course, we wish it were a Smooshy (we think Ru would have been an excellent subject…although we recognize his smoosh would have made it more challenging to sculpt) but we love Labs too. My family had a Yellow Labrador growing up, Buddy, and he was an amazing companion. I still miss his sweet face.

I wish I lived just a little bit closer to see this puppy (pun intended) in person! I am going to be in Long Beach in March, perhaps we can swing by and visit!

I grew up with labs, and black labs are my favorite (as my families current dog is mostly black lab), so I ADORE this statue!

There is also a dog peeing statue in Brussels, but it is much smaller than this one and there is no yellow paint. The statue in Brussels is called Zinneke Pis and is the complementary statue to Manneke Pis, or the statue of the little boy peeing.

Labs have the sweetest little souls. They couldn’t hurt a flea. They really are a great family dog. I’ll have to check out this dog peeing statue you speak of! :)
